Full Version: Waits on event "log file sync" problem / memory usage constantly too high

Prob:Waits on event "log file sync" while performing COMMIT and ROLLBACK operations were consuming significant database time. The application was performing 576 transactions per minute with an average redo size of 1260 bytes per transaction.

Setup: Solaris 5.9. With Oracle 10g R2 (10.2.0.3) Jan 2009 CPU patch applied.

Logfile: Three groups with 2 members size 102400 kb (100mb)
db_writer_process=2
log_buffer= 6156288
logfile members are multiplex to different partition.

Can you please direct me how to resolve this issue. Should I reduce or increase the logfile or log_buffer size

The log file sync wait occurs at the end of a transaction and the database writer (DBWR) must wait for the log file sync. Oracle guru Steve Adams notes details on how Oracle processes log file sync waits:
