Hi Farnaw,

>> please tell me should a dba have the knowledge of application servers

I wrote the "authorized edition" of the Oracle 10g Application Server Administration Handbook.

>> please DO RELPLY IN DETAIL

My book is a good place to start learning:

http://www.amazon.com/Oracle-Application-A...e/dp/0072229586

The Oracle DBA must manage the DB and the App servers. It also requires a good foundation in Java programming (J2EE).

Certification? No, value there, but yes, there is one:

http://www.dba-oracle.com/oracle_news/2005...rtification.htm

Oracle University announces the availability of the Oracle Application Server 10g Administrator Certified Associate beta exam. Earning your Oracle Application Server 10g OCA credential will give you recognition for your foundation of knowledge and training in working with Oracle Application Server 10g products.

To earn your Oracle Application Server 10g Administrator Certified Associate credential you must pass one exam, 1Z1-311 Oracle Application Server 10g: Administration I

Here are details:

Hope this helps. . .

Hi Farnaw,

Ah, take a minute to see this page, It shows you how to search for Oracle inforation using Google, very handy:

http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_google_keyword_searching.htm

I don't have a link, but I would highly recommend Bipul Kumar's book "Oracle Data Guard":

http://www.rampant-books.com/book_2004_2_dataguard.htm

Here is an excerpt, showing the install staps, but you need the book to get the scripts:

http://books.google.com/books?id=qK-biQrYz...WY4cE-oTe928HSY

2) Being a DBA how much knowledge of Application server i should have .

I depends! If you work in shops that don't use Oracle Applications (Orackle Financials) or an app server, then you don't need any knowledge. It's the same with RAC. It's a hot skillm but only if your employers uses it!
