Hello Friends,
I have completed Oracle 10g DBA Professional. Now It's tough part for me to get Oracle DBA jobs. So my Question is that how to get in as Fresher in any IT industry as Oracle DBA?...
More over what else to do next after Oracle DBA?
Can I do Java Programming or any other Oracle features? - like core java, advanced java or Oracle Datagaurd, Oracle RAC.

As I have completed Oracle DBA, So have I stick to on it or try to do other things as above like learn java development or Oracle Features to get in to Industry.....

Regards,
Darshan Panchal

Hi Darshan,

>> Oracle 10g DBA Professional.

The OCP?

*******************************

>> So my Question is that how to get in as Fresher in any IT industry as Oracle DBA?...

For starts, stop using non-English words like Fresher. An Oracle DBA must have college-level speaking and writing skills.

Have you a masters degree? With starrting jobs approaching $60,000/yr. Most employers hire kids right out of a masters degree program in IT or CS:

See here, read carefully:

http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_how_to_become_an_oracle_dba.htm

>> More over what else to do next after Oracle DBA?

I've been a DBA since 1983, there is no "after'!

Hello burleson,
Glad to talk with you sir, as you are one of the experienced oracle followers. Yes I am OCP Certified on Oracle 10g Database and In search of Oracle DBA job in india where i am living. I have completed my Bachelor's 2 months back and going for Master's Now.

I read your article Sir, Is it necessary to do MBA ? why?

I have to reach for OCM in future and soon will start learning for Oracle DataGaurd and Oracle RAC on oracle 10g.

You have written in your article that in IT,
>> "most insist on hiring DBA's who have demonstrated a commitment to the profession, constantly acquiring new certifications, degrees and knowledge. "
I do agree with you sir but without Implementing anything or one thing, is it wise to learn more?

I have used word "Freshers" , because people ask me do you have experience on Oracle or Oracle as DBA , I ask them how do i get such experience without giving me any chance...

I am not coming from higher ranked college, I have done my bachelor's from correspondence. and will do Masters as well.

So today my question is, how do i get started as Oracle DBA?

Darshan Panchal.

Hi Darshan,

>> Get OCM

That's GREAT! Almost any shop would hire an OCM since it "proves" that you know Oracle DBA.

Just beware, it is an expensive and challenging certification:

http://www.dba-oracle.com/t_ocm_certification_tips.htm

******************************************
>> Is it necessary to do MBA ? why?

No, btt an MBA is a good fit, because a DBA is often busy developing business systems, and knowledge of business is good.

Because of the high pay, it's a super-competitive market and folks with degrees from good schools have an edge . . .

The best places for a newbie include hositals charities and schools because they tend to pay less money.

**************************************

>> I have used word "Freshers"

Using pleases like "freshers" and "suggest me" incidate a poor understanding of English communications skills, critical for any DBA job!

*************************************

>> I am not coming from higher ranked college

I get hundreds of resumes for any given job, and the kid who has shown that they can sucessfully graduate from a competitive school is more impressive than somebody from a non-selective school.

I would get into the best masters degree program that will accept you!

I got my first DBA job right after completing my MBA in IT, and there were colleagues who did not get DBA jobs . . .

Good Luck!

Hello Mr. burleson,
Nice to meet you again.
>>For OCM.........

I have heard that , we have to be get experienced on oracle DBA like 4-5 years....than we could give examination, is it true?
Yes, I too heard that OCM is an expensive. and only one center for that in india, which is located in Banglore City(IT HUB of india).

So what about Oracle RAC, Datagaurd and Performance tuning Course in Oracle? can we do that certification, too?

Hi FDarshan

I don't think so, but I'm not sure . . .

>> I too heard that OCM is an expensive

You have to take classes from Oracle University plus about $3,000 for the test itself.

But then again, DBA's have salaries over $100,000, so that's cheap:

***********************************************
>> So what about Oracle RAC, Datagaurd and Performance tuning Course in Oracle?

I have no idea. I would ask Oracle about this:

Good Luck!
