Hi Burleson,

When I try to create Oracle 10g database, I get below error.
CODE
$ sqlplus /nolog
ERROR:
ORA-01804: failure to initialize timezone information

SP2-0152: ORACLE may not be functioning properly
$

Oracle note has suggested the following

QUOTE
The first thing to do is to check if ORA_TZFILE is set and if it is, remove it and restart the database and listener. Oracle will then try to load $ORACLE_HOME/oracore/zoneinfo/timezlrg.dat
If for some reason the file that Oracle wants to use is not available then this is the cause of the problem.
If the file is present then an alternative reason for the error could be that Oracle cannot load the file because of permission problems.

If all above is correct then it might be a .dat file that is corrupt.

CODE
$ pwd
/oracle/app/10201/oracore/zoneinfo
$
$ ls -alrt
total 1050
-rw-r-----   1 oracle     oinstall      2299 Nov 14  2003 readme.txt
-rw-r-----   1 oracle     oinstall    384987 Feb  4  2006 timezlrg.dat
-rw-r-----   1 oracle     oinstall    149260 Feb  4  2006 timezone.dat
drwxr-x---   4 oracle     oinstall        96 Mar  9 04:04 ..
drwxr-x---   2 oracle     oinstall        96 Mar  9 04:06 .
$

Can we remove this .dat file (timezlrg.dat) to continue creating database? Could you please clarify?

Please note that this is testing environment. There is already 11g database is created.
